Yes I’m doing a challenge starting on January 1 and it really goes to what I want to be doing more of in 2015.
The plan is that every day for 30 days we advance our drawing skills by creating a drawing using powdered glass on opaque glass.
Here is an image of the work that has inspired so many of us to take part in the challenge…it is produced by Kelly Alge – such talent.
How stunning is this work? This is what I’m aiming for – well the student version of this, which will be blotchy and less well designed than this, but its a beginning and another new skill to learn in 2015. (This is just one of several techniques that I’m going to be venturing into next year…bring it on!)
Feel the fear and do it anyway …so this is what I’m using to begin this challenge – its System 96 Spectrum Black Powder.
the challenge for day 1/30 was to just play with the black powder on opaque glass and I’m using a white glass as my base. Not a dense white but 109SF…I’ll explain more about that later. Today’s challenge was to play with the powder with your fingers. Here’s today:
Day One of my challenge complete.
So its now Day Two of the challenge, except that there’s been a gap of more than 30 days in between. We have had some “real life” challenges along the way…so now back to where we were on January 2…..2/30 Sgraffito Challenge 2015.
Today the challenge is to “draw a tree” using only our fingers ……
so day 3/30 Sgraffito Challenge is to produce some sort of a landscape scene created with one colour of frit using just your fingers and an old business card!
I tried to produce a photograph from the Canal du Midi (where we spent a week).
Here is my attempt.
More tomorrow…ok so tomorrow is here already and the challenge was to set a timer for 5 minutes and do one painting…take a picture of it – dump the frit back into the jar and re-set the timer for 5 minutes and do another one…..in this manner we are to do a total of 5 frit drawings…here goes….tick tick tick…
ok the next 5 minutes starts…..
after the face with the lopsided eyes and the lopsided mouth I tried a eucalyptus tree: tick tock 4 minutes:
For the last 5 minutes I thought I’d attempt some lettering……remember this is the first time I’ve ever tried anything like this:
trying to work on an image that is way too full of information….here it is:
here’s another image I took the same day of a yacht heeling over on Lake Como, Northern Italy….
last five minutes attempt for today gum leaf and gum nut….
Phew – done for today…..more tomorrow!
